(Salt Lake City, UT, September, 2009) – Albertsons and Hill & Valley (H&V), the largest exclusive manufacturer of sugar-free and no-sugar added desserts in the US, is supporting the American Diabetes Association’s Salt Lake City Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes this Saturday, September 26 at This is the Place Heritage Park. Step Out is the Association’s one-day signature walk event that raises money to help stop diabetes by furthering their mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

“There are nearly 24 million children and adults in the United States who are living with diabetes and if present trends continue, one in three children will face a future with diabetes. This is a staggering epidemic that needs to be stopped.” Laura Landon, Executive Director of the Utah Market. “This is your chance to make a difference in the lives of all people affected by diabetes, including 171,000 or 1/3 of all Utahns.”

“Our customers face this life-debilitating disease every day. Hill & Valley believes in improving and extending their quality of life, so supporting the Salt Lake City Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes with Albertsons was a natural fit for us,” commented Hill & Valley CEO Scott Florence. Florence, whose own father suffers from diabetes, is leading the charge to rally H&V customers, retail partners and communities to help find a cure.

“Walk with us in the scenic foothills where Salt Lake City was declared “This is The Place” in 1847. Beginning at This is the Place Heritage Park, the routes continue through living history among pioneer homes and businesses enroute to Utah’s Hogle Zoo. Once there, take a walk on the wild side through the Zoo’s beautiful 42-acres of exhibits. To fund research, education and advocacy, join your community and share in this exciting event. Each step you take brings us closer to a cure.” explains Tara Demke, Walk Manager for the American Diabetes Association. “On the morning of the Walk, participants will check-in, enjoy a delicious breakfast and then gather for an exciting opening ceremony, featuring some of the ladies from Good Things Utah. After a few quick warm-up exercises, walkers will Step Out along the 2.5-mile and 5-mile routes through This is the Place and Utah’s Hogle Zoo. “We want everyone to enjoy a day of fun, entertainment and activities for the entire family. Become a team captain and enjoy the thrill of bringing your family, friends and co-workers together!”

“We are excited to be supported by Albertsons and Hill & Valley. Sponsors are extremely important in helping us raise money for research to find a cure for diabetes, a disease that kills more than 230,000 Americans each year,” commented Laura Landon, Executive Director.
