Hill and Valley, Inc., won four first place awards in the Family Category for No-Sugar-Added (NSA) pies at the 2008 APC/Crisco® National Pie Championships, Commercial Division. They won in the Coconut Cream, Nut, Fruit & Berry, and New Products categories.

(Rock Island, IL – May 06, 2008) – Presented by the American Pie Council (APC), the competition took place at the Orlando Sun Resort and Convention Center, in Kissimmee, Fla. It was held in conjunction with pie baking competitions for Amateur, Professional and Junior Chef Divisions held April 19 through 20.

Hill and Valley’s Family NSA category winners included its Sugar-Free Coconut Crème Pie; Sugar-Free Pecan Pie; Sugar Free Key Lime Pie; and new in 2008 Sugar Free Chocolate Truffle Pie (a new category winner for NEW PRODUCT).

Held annually since 1995, the National Pie Championships offer participants the opportunity to test their pies against other top bakers nationwide. The APC has established a standard of quality in pie making on all levels. According to the APC, previous Commercial Division winners have experienced substantial increased sales and market share in their winning category.

Commercial Division categories were: Family-wholesale cost under $2; Premium-wholesale cost under $4; Gourmet-wholesale cost under $6; Super Gourmet-wholesale cost over $6; and Independent Bakers-pie sales under $1,000,000. Flavor categories in the No Sugar Added category consisted of: apple, blueberry, cherry, chocolate cream, citrus, coconut cream, nut, open fruit and berry, open cream, and peach.

Commercial Division awards were presented in an industry-only ceremony at the Orlando Sun Resort the evening of April 18.
